Abstract

In this paper we present new algorithms and experimental results from a system that performs efficient stereo reconstruction in bandwidth-constrained environments. This new approach is intended for a framework where sensors are connected via a wireless link to a high-speed network of workstations. The algorithms for object reconstruction from stereo correspondence achieve efficiencies by processing the image stream while it is still compressed, exploiting the compression process that is necessary for maximizing throughput on the wireless link.
