Dynamic behaviors of plasma reflection during keyhole arc welding

Abstract

This study aims at providing the understanding of evolution and development of the keyhole process in Keyhole Arc Welding. To this end, a high speed imaging system is used to observe the dynamic behaviors of the plasma and its reflection. An image processing algorithm based on median point is proposed and implemented to extract the reflection arc angle of the plasma. It is found that the reflection arc angle can be used to characterize the state of the growth of the keyhole process.
