Funding Information:Initiated with funding from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation in 1997, the PSM program kicked off when 28 students entered the first program at the Keck Graduate Institute in 2000. Since then, the PSM network has grown substantially. According to the PSM Degree Program Enrollee and Graduate Report by the National Professional Science Master’s Association (NPSMA)4, as of the 2008–09 academic year, more than 2,500 students were enrolled in 124 programs across the United States. New PSM programs are being launched at a rapid pace. In fact, there are currently more than 200 PSM programs at over 100 affiliated institutions. Additionally, the PSM has received endorsements and support from the National Science Foundation, the National Research Council and the Council of Graduate Schools.
