The isolation and structure elucidation of the novel premithramycin-type compound 3A-deolivosylpremithramycin B (1) allowed cross-feeding experiments with this compound to two glycosyltransferase-minus mutants of the mithramycin producer S. argillaceus; this has solved the sequence of the last glycosylation steps of mithramycin biosynthesis.
