Embodying Nature: De-centering and Re-centering Bodies as Socio-nature

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This chapter turns our attention to the body in political ecology research. The chapter examines how the body—as socio-nature—comes into contact with the environment and is made, modified and remade under capitalism and the Anthropocene. Building on these insights, the chapter highlights key concepts in political ecology used to connect patterns of environmental change to bodily health and disease while also detailing how emotional and biochemical dimensions of bodies materialize in everyday life. Insights from this chapter will be of particular interest to those engaging with relational, intersectional, and uneven entanglements of bodies and nature.
