Abstract
This paper reports an investigation of textures and particles of a continuous cast Al-Mg alloy during hot rolling using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and optical microscopy. It was found that the changes in texture during hot rolling reduction were followed by changes in the orientation distribution function. When the rolling reduction was below 38%, the development of the Brass (orientation {110}〈112〉) and S (orientation {123}〈634〉) texture components were inhibited, while above 38% in rolling reduction they increased sharply. In comparison, the copper component continuously increased with increase in rolling reduction. Microstructure changes were studied with optical microscopy. The particle area fraction and particle chemical composition were determined by optical microscopy and EDS. The reasons for the changes in the character of intermetallic particles and texture during hot rolling are discussed.
