Abstract

As discussed in Chapter 10, for determination of dierent dosimetric parameters implemented in the internationally established TG-43 (Nath et al. 1995) and TG-43U1 (Rivard et al. 2004) dosimetry protocol, experimentally validated MC simulation results are required. is recommendation has been extended in the AAPM and ESTRO report on dose calculation for photonemitting brachytherapy sources with average energy higher than 50 keV (Li et al. 2007; Pérez-Calatayud et al. 2012). Furthermore, the need for investigating and quantifying the dose perturbation arising from simple or complex applicator geometries and applicator materials (plastic or metal), shielding materials, and tissue inhomogeneities necessitates the availability of appropriate experimental dosimetry systems in modern brachytherapy.
