Abstract

Due to the globalization of markets and increased competition, enterprise sustainability of manufacturing organization has become a key requirement for success. However, no comprehensive methods are available for evaluating enterprise sustainability performance, particularly to promote sustainable manufacturing, that address the three pillars of sustainability, total life cycle stages, and 6R methodology simultaneously. To develop a better sustainability performance assessment system, the existing methods are studied and reviewed. A performance assessment system evaluation framework is proposed to help identify all criteria that must be considered to effectively assess sustainable manufacturing performance at the line, plant and finally enterprise levels. An alternative value-based method to evaluate system level sustainable manufacturing is also presented.
