Higher twists and the measurements of g2

Abstract

The 6 GeV accelerator at Jefferson Lab was used to perform precision studies of the neutron spin structure functions, g1 n(x,Q2) and g2n(x,Q2). Using a dense polarized 3He target allowed us to determine the lowest moment, Γ1n(Q2), for three different momentum-transfers (< 1 GeV2) in the resonance region. Together with data from other laboratories we were able to perform a systematic analysis of higher twist effects. In addition, a first precision measurement of g 2n outside the resonance region (W> 1.9 GeV) indicates clear evidence for higher twist contributions for Q2 values less than 1 GeV2.
