Abstract

A review of some of the best practices that need to be considered in engineering education applied to different Science-based courses is presented. Some of the courses for which these practices need to be considered include Freshman Chemical Engineering (FCE), Materials and Energy Balance, Fluid Mechanics, Introductory Thermodynamics, and Separations. A major goal of the FCE course needs to be encourage students to enroll in such course and and motivate to select engineering career. The course can have a wide variety of formats, depending on the number of credits and objectives of a specific institution. It is essential for a department to identify the objective of introducing or teaching such a freshman course at an institution before adding it in the curriculum. Some of the significant best practices for such courses include using freshman design projects and introducing in-class experiments.
