Igniting Evidence-Based Education in CSD with 3 Es: Empower, Engage, & Evaluate.

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

Just as we strive to be evidence-based practicing clinicians, professors strive to be evidence-based practicing educators. Recent evidence indicated that college graduates are not performing well at jobs or learning enough in college which may relate to pedagogical delivery (Fink, 2010; Sheppard et al., 2009). The three Es of evidence-based education (empower, engage, evaluate) serve as a tool to enhance pedagogical delivery and CSD graduates preparation for the clinical workforce. Empowering students relates to the welcoming learning environment created through positive communication. Student engagement as active learners begins with teaching strategies that match the educators’ excitement and enthusiasm of course content. Evaluation encompasses a variety of low and high stakes assessments evaluating the process more than the product of learning. This presentation will provide educators with evidence-based strategies related to empowering, engaging, and evaluating CSD students to implement in the classroom immediately. In doing so, we will reignite the joy and passion for educating future CSD professionals.
