Inclusive STEM School Models: A Review of Characteristics & Impact

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This chapter summarizes the literature on successful STEM school models and highlights major achievements and challenges of the STEAM Academy in Lexington, KY. The chapter first examines research on inclusive STEM high school characteristics before examining existing, early research on the impact of these models. A particular example of an inclusive STEM high school, codeveloped by the author, is then provided as additional context and insight before remaining research questions are shared. Inclusive STEM high school models are showing early promise within limited implementations while questions remain as to the scaling and sustainability of such models.
