Abstract
Objectives:
- Describe the evolution of our library systematic review service.
- Describe tools and strategies used to help develop our processes.
- Describe a plan for advocacy and education to administrators and colleagues.
Over the past five years, our evidence syntheses service has experienced significant evolution. What began as an informal offering, supplemented by a research guide, has evolved into a structured service.
Originally serving as a resource gateway and advisory tool, our resource guide primarily directed users to supplementary materials while cautioning about the time demands of systematic reviews. However, recognizing evolving user needs, we expanded the guide's scope to include scoping reviews, enriched it with additional examples, foundational articles, and database search tutorials. We also launched a service model that ranged from consultation services to full collaboration, and a peer-to-peer training model for developing colleagues' skills in evidence syntheses.
Acknowledging resource constraints, we implemented strategic measures such as service pauses and waiting queues, while advocating for robust evidence synthesis policies. Effective data collection is crucial for informing service development, providing insights into librarian time spent on reviews, and areas for improvement. Using data to garner administrative support, we adopted DistillerSR to streamline review management and key positions were created to support oversight and policy implementation.
Driven by a commitment to research quality, we will enforce mandatory protocols and MOUs to ensure adherence to high standards throughout the review process. Our objectives include providing comprehensive support for protocol development, enhancing review management efficiency, and promoting adherence to quality standards.
