Abstract

Although technology is embedded in most deeper learning models, its primary role is to enhance the learning experience of its learners. At the heart of this integration is the school principal. Effective school leadership not only facilitates deeper learning through strategic technology use but also creates conditions for innovation to thrive. In this chapter, we address the point of concurrency among technology, school leadership, and deeper learning. We explore the meaning of deeper learning within an era of advancing digital technologies and provide examples of how school leaders utilize new school design and technology deployments to make learning more engaging, utilize more authentic assessments, and create stronger community connections. This chapter is based on findings from a case study of leading deeper learning schools, where we interviewed 30 school leaders around the world and visited their schools, looking at how K-12 school leaders leveraged technology for deeper learning. In this chapter, we provide insights into how technologies are mobilized to serve student learning. We conclude the chapter with practical tips for harnessing technology for deeper, more meaningful learning.
