Libraries, Leadership, and Synergies – On Discerning and Informed AI Implementations

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

As enthusiasm for artificial intelligence (AI) continues, boosters lean on the abstract promise innovation and cost-savings while detractors express concerns with work destruction, disregard for intellectual property in training language models, impact on learning outcomes and knowledge acquisition, and the tensions between trend-following and choosing AI implementations to match real needs. This article offers an overview of types of AI, strategic deliberations in determining AI approaches, practical factors in choosing and deploying AI, and ethical considerations.
