Abstract
The needs of our students, faculty, and researchers have evolved over the past four years. It has become increasingly common for our patrons to ask questions about the systematic review process. Due to minimum staffing levels we have not developed a formal systematic review service, and therefore we have helped users on a first-come first-serve basis. To meet this growing need, we developed a virtual Lunch & Learn workshop series on the systematic review process. The program objectives were to teach frequently asked questions and to create recordings to share that could act as a first line defense for these growing requests.
To determine workshop topics, we examined and discussed the questions we had received. The systematic review steps, database searching, and using EndNote to manage searches were the most requested topics. Overarchingly, we wanted to develop a series of workshops that provided generalized education on what systematic reviews were and how they were different from literature searches.
Initially, the workshops were going to be held simultaneously in-person and streamed in our Zoom equipped conference room and recordings were going to be uploaded for those who could not attend. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to adjust and only offer them via Zoom. In order to streamline this process, we created a website for the workshops which included the registration link, recording links, and handouts from the workshops. In addition to the website, participants who registered for the sessions were sent calendar invites as well as the link to the recording of the session.
An evaluation form was created to assess the program. The outcomes we are expecting to measure are: (1) did it meet patrons’ expectations, (2) did those attending learn something new, and (3) would they recommend the workshops to their colleagues and students. We have received anecdotal positive feedback and plan to continue and expand topical workshops for Spring 2021.
