Abstract

A measurement has been made of the angular correlation of the neutrino with the 1229 keV γ-ray from the de-excitation of the 2201 keV 1+ level in aluminum-28, following muon capture in silicon-28. To suppress the neutron-induced background in the HPGe detector, a coincidence in a NaI array is required with the 942 keV γ-ray in the de-excitation cascade. The lifetime of the 2201 keV level is found to be 61 ± 4 ± 9 fs. The correlation coefficient α is found to be 0.36 ± 0.06 implying gP/gA. = 0-3+3.5.
