Abstract
Isotropic pitch nanotube composite carbon fibers were prepared by dispersing single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) in isotropic petroleum pitch matrices. The product composites exhibit enhanced tensile strength, modulus and electrical conductivity compared to the original pitch fibers. These enhancements appear to result from the action of the dispersed SWNT bundles as unidirectional reinforcing fibers within the composite fiber.
