Abstract

This is an excerpt from a new chapter, Narrativity and Storytelling, in Murray & DeSanctis's Advanced Legal Writing and Oral Advocacy (Foundation Press, 2d ed. 2013). The objective of the chapter is to teach narrative reasoning and storytelling skills to law students.

This chapter discusses narrative reasoning in the following sections of briefs and memoranda: • introductions and summaries of argument • questions presented • tables of contents and thesis headings • facts sections • argument sections • explanation sections.
