Abstract

The construction industry is undergoing a technological revolution, with innovations such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) changing traditional industry practices. Meanwhile, construction organizations face major challenges related to the successful adoption of technologies that require careful assessment of both technological and organizational aspects. This is a systematic review of interrelated aspects governing technology maturity, organizational readiness, and implementation fitness within the complex landscape characterizing technology adoption in the construction industry. Past literature and models are synthesized into one coherent framework through which technological innovations by construction companies could be assessed and navigated. It considers the roles of assessment methodologies and their uses in the context of the industry of construction pinpointing those critical factors that influence successful technology adoption. These findings put an integrated approach to the forefront, looking in detail at the dynamic interplay between technology maturity, organizational preparedness, and strategic alignment during technology adoption. The research attempts to improve the general academic understanding and practical decision-making levels in construction technology adoption and provide insights into improving adoption strategies and outcomes in a traditionally resistant to change industry.
