Abstract
The development of a thermal velocity nuclear spin polarized β-radioactive 8Li beam is described. The observation of the β-decay allows for polarization measurements in situ while the atoms are adsorbed on a surface. Results of a first test experiment which intends to study nuclear spin relaxation on an oxygen covered W(110) surface are presented.
