On estimating the infection rate of the simple stochastic epidemic

Abstract

SUMMARY: Hill & Severo (1969) suggest an approximation to the maximum likelihood estimate of the infection rate of the simple stochastic epidemic model. In this note, a refinement to this approximation is presented.
