Abstract

In this paper, an investigation of the work-hardening characteristics of continuous cast sheet of AA5052 aluminum alloy during hot and cold rolling is carried out using X-ray crystallographic data. The texture changes during hot and cold rolling reductions were followed by changes in the Orientation Distribution Function. The orientation hardening/softening can be separated from normal dislocation hardening at the grain level. A numerical method is used to derive the rate of orientation hardening and softening and to determine the six individual texture components (Cube, Rotated Cube, Goss, Brass, S and Copper components) directly from the ODF data in the alloy. The developments of hardening orientation and softening orientation during hot and cold rolling are also studied. The difference of orientation hardening and orientation softening of the alloy sheet between hot and cold rolling is analyzed and discussed.
