Abstract

Presents a methodology for selecting an optimum strategy for water supply pump stations. The methodology was applied to a distribution system in Texas, U.S.A., to determine the feasibility of the approach. The technique is formulated using powerful optimization techniques subject to a series of reliability constraints. The formulation of the problem and solution of the optimization problems, algorithms and computer programs use are outlined. Application of the methodology resulted in 4.2% cost savings over a period of two days. (J.M.M.)
