Abstract
Approximately half of all adolescents have been diagnosed with a mental health disorder. Common disorders include anxiety, depression, eating disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, and autism spectrum disorder. Parents and caregivers have common concerns regarding parenting, medical care, and social support. Parents and caregivers of children and adolescents with mental health problems often feel alone and feel a lack of social support. Parenting children and adolescents with mental health problems can be challenging. A book titled “The Danish way” offers insight to parenting by using the acronym PARENT (play, authenticity, reframing, empathy, no ultimatums, and togetherness).
