Abstract

The problem of predicting the performances of a compact crossflow heat exchanger with the unmixed unmixed flow arrangement involving three fluids is formulated. The exact analytical solutions to the mean mixed exit temperatures of each fluid are obtained. The analysis of the three stream crossflow heat exchanger performance is performed by studying the influence of the following parameters: heat capacity rate ratios, number of transfer units, heat transfer resistance ratios and the dimensionless inlet temperature of the third fluid. An analysis of the results reveals an exact evaluation of the usefulnes of this kind of compact heat exchangers for various applications. (A)
