Abstract

(equation presented) As part of an investigation into new synthetic routes to poly(peri-naphthalene), the synthesis and cycloaromatization of tetraethynylbiphenyls is described. The temperature-dependent cyclization of biphenyls containing unsubstituted alkynes provides the desired perylene in good yield.
