Abstract

The goal of precision medicine is to deliver the right drug at the right time to the right patient for diagnosis, treatment, and disease monitoring. As technologies have advanced, incorporation of multiple analytes and biomarkers to guide precision medicine-based care is becoming more feasible, especially in the oncology specialty. In this chapter, we discuss next generation sequencing, the practice of precision oncology, and the emergence of the liquid biopsy in the treatment and prognosis of cancer, as well as the clinical utility of incorporating these tests in cancer care.
