Abstract
Coal-based Pressurized Chemical Looping Combustion Combined Cycle (PCLC-CC) is the second generation of CLC plant for solid fuel. The plant configuration of PCLC-CC can be deployed similarly as that of Pressurized Fluidized Bed Combined Cycle (PFBC) to significantly lower CO2 capture cost and improving plant efficiency. In this chapter, we first introduced the concept of PCLC-CC and described two processes of the direct coal-fueled PCLC developed by Center for Applied Energy Research at University of Kentucky, USA and Southeast University, China. In fundamental levels, we described the analytical and experimental data of the major chemical reactions dominating CLC process. We then proceed to illustrate 100 kWth PCLC facilities at SEU, China and 50 kWth coal-fueled PCLC facilities at UK-CAER, both of which using cost-effective iron material as oxygen carriers. Finally, we gave Tech-economic Analysis of UK-CAER's PCLC-CC plant, and pointed out the technical gaps and challenges for future commercialization.
