Rapid maturation of soybean somatic embryos

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

When researchers at Univeristy of Kentucky accidentally neglected to add B5 vitamins and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) after transferring globular stage soybeam (Glycine max) somatic embryos to flasks containing a liquid proliferation medium, they found that, instead of proliferation, the globular embryos underwent differential maturation. When they used this liquid medium as a maturation medium for somatic embryos that had been included and proliferated on Murshige-Skoog-based solid media, they found that the somatic embryos reached full maturity in as little as 2 weeks.
