The authors would like to thank the reporters who generously offered their time and insight to this project. This paper draws from interviews with religion reporters in the United States to trace how they decide which religions they cover and how they cover them. The paper finds that these reporters recognize the limitations to covering the diverse religions in the United States in a nuanced way. Some respondents are better positioned to resist how the dominance of Protestantism in United States culture limits their ability to avoid stereotypes and bias in how they cover diverse religions.
