Abstract

Risk factor analysis is a very important component in the evaluation process of advanced heart failure therapies like durable mechanical circulatory support (MCS) and heart transplantation. The risk factor analysis includes assessment of severity of heart failure, cardiac and noncardiac factors, transplant candidacy, and ventricular assist device (VAD) operative risks. Careful assessment of risk factors results in early interventions which positively impact the outcomes after VAD and total artificial heart implantation. The utilization of multidisciplinary team approach is critical in evaluation process.
