Abstract

This chapter is divided into four sections: death and loss within the curriculum, teaching children who have life-threatening or terminal conditions (this section also touches on cultural and religious issues), responding to classroom questions and challenges about death, and coping with the death of a pupil. I hope that it offers a reflective progression of ideas which will help teachers in particular to cope sensitively with death in relation to their pupils and their families, and to their colleagues and themselves.
