Abstract
Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is relatively common in the adolescent population. It is typically a signal of underlying distress. There is an important relationship between NSSI and suicide. It is important to be comfortable asking youth about self-harm behaviors and also to respond appropriately if a youth discloses this behavior. There are a number of therapies available to help youth who have self-harm behavior.
