Abstract

Historically, healthcare and academic organizations relied on internally developed tools for preceptor evaluation. The demand for preceptors and transition-to-practice accreditation requirements have fostered interest in preceptor evaluation methods, prompting the development of the Association for Nursing Professional Development Preceptor Assessment Tool. This evidence-based, valid, and reliable assessment provides a mechanism for preceptor self-evaluation and evaluation by other stakeholders. It meets the need for a mechanism to standardize and evaluate preceptor programs and individual preceptors.
