title = "SH-wave seismic reflection imaging - Applications to high-capacity foundation engineering",
abstract = "The applications SH-wave seismic reflection imaging to high-capacity foundation engineering were discussed. It was found that the SH-waves were more amenable for imaging geologic features in the near surface (≫ 100 m) than the traditional P-waves survey because they were framework waves, and therfore sample the geologic medium more accurately than the fluid-sensitive P-wave. The results show that, although S-wave have commonly have frequencies only one-half to one-third that of P-waves. The P-waves have velocities 5 to 10 times higher than S-waves, therefore, resolution can commonly by improved by a factor of 2 to 3 through the use of S-waves.",
