Abstract

This paper presents a least squares based method to estimate synchronous generator parameters from available measurements of the machine. The parameter estimation problem is formulated based on the well-established mathematical model of synchronous generators. Some parameters are estimated based on steady state measurements and others are further estimated by utilizing measurements captured during disturbances such as faults. Quite accurate results have been obtained based on simulation studies.
