Abstract
Most of the reliability literature deals with systems of components in which only two levels of performance are recognized - ″functioning″ and ″failed″ . Recent work has begun to develop structure function theory for components and systems having intermediate levels of performance. Results concerning coherent structures, stochastic modeling of system performance and component importance are discussed.
