Abstract

Deprotonation of the bis(alkyne) complex [W-(CO)(η2-HC=CCMe3)2(Cp*)][BF4] (1) with KH gives the alkynyl/alkyne complex [W(C=CCMe3)(CO)(η2-HC= CCMe3)(Cp*)] (2), methylation of which gives the catbnic alkyne/vinylidene complex [W(C=CMeCMe3)(CO)(η2-HC=CCMe3)(Cp*)][BF4] (3). Deprotonation of 3 with sodium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide under CO gives the crys-tallographically characterized η3-enynyl complex [W-(CO)23-Me3CC=CC=CMeCMe3)(Cp*)] (4) via the facile insertion of a vinylidene ligand into a metal-alkynyl σ-bond.
