Abstract

With the initiation of cardiopulmonary bypass, a large volume of pump prime is infused into the patient, resulting in normovolemic hemodilution. The drop in hematocrit is not instantaneous, requiring 2 minutes to reach equilibrium. The optimal sampling time for hematocrit sampling is after 2 minutes.
