Abstract

Signaling by the secreted Wnt family of lipoglycoproteins has central and conserved roles in animal development, tissue homeostasis, stem cell regulation, and pathogenesis of cancer and other diseases. This article provides an overview of the canonical Wnt signaling pathway, which acts through stabilization of the transcriptional co-activator β-catenin, thereby governing gene expression programs.
