Abstract

Measurements on the bolometric spectrum (250 - 2500 cm-1) and on thermal hysteresis in the resistivity of orthorhombic TaS3 are reportd. Hysteresis loops which occur for voltages below the non-Ohmic threshold (VT) close for V > VT, causing increases in the bolometric signal. A plateau occurs in the spectrum for ν > 1500 ± 30 cm-1 at ∼ 100 K, but disappears rapidly with increasing temperature. This plateau is tentatively identified with excitation across the charge density wave gap.
