Abstract
We have measured and studied the first tunneling spectra of the recently discovered [1] high Tc material 1Ba2Ca3Cu4Oy (Cu-1234). This material has four Cu-O2 layers and a Tc of 116 K. The tunneling spectra show sharp peaks indicative of the superconducting gap at 27 meV to 30 meV, giving a value of 2Δ/kTc of 5.4 to 6.0. We will discuss and compare features of the tunneling spectra taken from Cu-1234 with those taken from the n=2 member of the Bi-based cupratcs (Bi-2212), which has a similar crystal structure.
