Abstract

We have measured the energy gap of highly c-axis-oriented Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10-x (2:2:2:3) polycrystals along the ab plane with a low-temperature scanning tunneling microscope. Our best tunneling conductance curve showed that the Δab of 2:2:2:3 should be close to, but not larger than 39 meV. Both 2:2:2:3-to-normal-metal, and 2:2:2:3-to-2:2:2:3 tunneling show similar energy-gap values.
