Abstract
The tutorials that will be offered at the 2012 IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) Annual Meeting to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, October, are discussed. Power System Studies for Wind Power Plants discusses power system studies conducted on grid-connected wind power plants. The classification of different types of studies and the implication in terms of model requirement and short-circuit capacity requirement are discussed. Maintenance Considerations and Planning for Electric Power Equipment will provide an introduction to various types of transformers and circuit breakers. Distribution Volt/VAR Management Strategies provides utility engineering personnel with the background and skills necessary to effectively manage distribution losses, voltage, and reactive power flow on modern distribution systems. Overvoltage Protection Design of Industrial and Commercial AC Power System and Rail Transit DC Traction Power System will provide an overview of the overvoltage protection design of industrial and commercial ac power systems as well as rail transit dc power systems.
