Abstract

This article presents a transmission line fault location algorithm based on distributed parameter line model by utilizing unsynchronized voltage and current measurements from two terminals of the line. The new solution fully considers the impacts of the shunt capacitance of the line and is virtually independent of fault resistance and source impedance. Evaluation studies based on simulation studies for verifying the accuracy of the algorithm are reported, and quite promising results have been achieved.
