Abstract

Examined the relationships between 6 "in-basket" scoring categories and ratings of the on-the-job work performance of 71 foremen in a manufacturing firm. Results show positive, significant relationships between 4 of the scoring dimensions (i.e., personally rewarding, personality punishing, setting goals, and designing job systems) and a composite measure of foreman effectiveness. Results are contrasted with results obtained in previous research on in-basket validity, and suggestions for future research are discussed.
