Abstract
The molecular structure of (Z)-2(3-Thienyl)-3-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)-acrylonitrile was investigated. The compound was prepared by base-catalyzed reaction of 3,4, 5-trimethoxybenzaldehyde with thiophene-3-acetonitrile. It was found that the olefinic bond had Z geometry and thienyl ring flip disorder was observed in the compound. Significant deviations from the ideal bond-angle geometry around Csp2 atoms of the double bond were also observed.
