My current research examines innovation ecosystems as catalysts for social transformation, especially within fragmented and institutionally pluralistic settings. Drawing on empirical work in Africa’s sports sector, I examine how these communities build and evolve these ecosystems over time. In a 2024 paper published in Sport, Business and Management (SBM), a group of authors and I reflected on Africa's sport ecosystem, including its challenges and opportunities.

Much of my work also examines how institutional practices in the sport industry reinforce inequality. For example, my 2020 paper, published in Organization, discusses the institution of sport as a site for social change. 

I am the George and Betty Blanda Endowed Professor in Sport Leadership and Director of the Future of Sport Institute (FoSI) at the University of Kentucky. My papers appear in journals such as Journal of Sport Management, Organization, Journal of Management Inquiry, European Sport Management Quarterly, Sport Management Review, and Journal of African American Studies, among others. Since 2020, I have served as the Editor-in-Chief for Sport, Business and Management: An International Journal.
