Biography
Lindsey Fay, MSArch, EDAC is Associate Dean of Research, Director of Graduate Studies, and Associate Professor in the University of Kentucky’s College of Design. Her work centers around healthcare design research and examines the intersection of people, processes, and the built environment. She has demonstrated success in the leadership of collaborations among hospital administration and staff, design firms, and the university as Principal Investigator on the assessment of a variety of healing environments including the emergency department, cardiovascular, and neonatal intensive care units. She has extended these investigations to rural settings in Appalachia, Kentucky and Santo Domingo, Ecuador. Professor Fay’s research engages in methodological innovation to ensure participatory and inclusive data collection methods.
Outcomes from Professor Fay’s work have contributed to a scholarly body of healthcare design research focused on efficiency, communication, healthcare processes, and patient outcomes. She is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences and has been published in numerous book chapters and leading peer-reviewed journals in the fields of healthcare design, communication, and nursing. In the past year, she was recognized as a University of Kentucky Research Professor and the recipient of the International Interior Design Association’s Impact Award and the Interior Design Educators Council Scholarship Excellence Award.
As a design scholar, Professor Fay strives to translate the observational, collaborative, and immersive aspects of her research in the field of healthcare design to pedagogical opportunities that emphasize the idea that research supports good design. She serves as a welcoming mentor to her students and regularly advocates for the healthcare design discipline and interior design profession.
